Comics, comic books and manga

Nearly 5,500 original plates, from European comics, American comic books, Japanese manga and animation production, enrich the collection. These works cover a period from the first half of the 20th century to the present day and allow us to follow the evolution of these artistic forms over time.

Here you will find the Franco-Belgian comic strip, from the Brussels school to the more fantasy style of Marcinelle. The development of American comics is also well represented, with references to the superheroes of Marvel and DC Comics, as well as publishers like EC Comics. Manga, which experienced a dazzling development from the 1980s onwards, occupies a central place with landmark works such as Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo.

Artists such as Albert Uderzo, Enki Bilal, Frank Miller, Will Eisner and many others illustrate the diversity and impact of this discipline across ages and cultures. These works allow us to explore the richness of the graphic and narrative styles that have marked the history of comics and animation.
